Ever since I discovered the art of Chuck Close,

I was in awe.

It spoke to me as true modern art. Not cars hanging from ceilings. But lights and darks dispersed on a canvas reinterpreting.
And if that was not enough, being the artistic genius that he is, he is also paralyzed.

As an art major one of my favorite pieces was a self portrait in the style of Chuck Close.
I was off and running, neglected all my other classes, it was going to be as good as I imagined.

I pored myself into every tiny square, every receding and proceeding color.

SO when The Gap came out with this years artists edition, in celebration of the Whitney Biennial.

Chuck Close was one of these artists, and D got me his t-shirt!!  I know it was difficult for him to shell out 28 bucks for a t-shirt.

It is better than I thought, because the little marks of the image are a nubby velvety texture, something I was not expecting, that 3-D factor.
I don’t want to wear it because then I have to wash it…

I would actually love to get it autographed by Chuck Close whom I have had the privilege of meeting at a lecture at the 92nd street Y.  Which was quite a good experience, he was such a mensch.

Below is another t-shirt out there, which I want now too.

Here is another example of his work which is simplest the coolest thing ever.

To top it all off he is intelligent, insightful , witty, well spoken, and his interviews are really riveting.

These shirts are now sold out in almost every gap nationwide, And there are no longer anymore chuck close editions are available online.

His art books also make excellent gifts, for anyone who appreciates the portrait on any level.
