I came across an image of these wild horses in a magazine, and it completely sent me into a horse frenzy. I was completely fixated on capturing horses. Now, you see in NYC that’s easier said than done. But with a little resourcefulness (OCD, same thing) I was able to stealth-ily make my way into the Van Cortlandt Stables with a kind jockey. Apparently the stable employees frown upon photographers but they let me stay for well over an hour quietly shooting horses to my hearts content.
This is one of my favorite images of the day. My featured horse was a major ham in front of the camera and got jealous if I left him for some other shooting opportunities. Some things I love about this image is the movement in his mane, his eye contact - it all works very well.
It was a very successful trip, and I might be sneaking in there again soon.
